Safeguarding the Tongue

The Imam of the Pious, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said,

“Whoever guarantees me that they’ll safeguard what is between their lips and what is between their legs, I guarantee Paradise for them.” [Related by Ahmad, #22315]

IslamOnline - Islam, Fundamentalism, and the Betrayal of Tradition - Contemporary Section

Sidi Tarek Ghanem on Joseph Lumbard’s forthcoming book Islam, Fundamentalism, and the Betrayal of Tradition: Essays by Western Muslim Scholars….

He pointed to an excellent article by Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad — The Poverty of Fanaticism.

Someone asked, “How does Shaykh Abdal Hakim pack all those brain cells up there?” I responded, “Its not him.” The person thought I meant that the scholarly output is not by Shaykh Abdal Hakim.

I simply meant that…

“You threw not when you threw. It was Allah who threw.” [Qur’an]

Affirmation in denial.

Sunflower, in Shandur 2004, 4×4 Offroaders Club Karachi

As the poet said,
“In everything there is a clear sign,
Pointing out that He is indeed the One.”

Allah reminds us, for humans (insan) are given to forgetting (nisyan):

“Truly, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and (in) the alternation of night and day are signs for people of understanding,

People who remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say): Our Lord! You created not this in vain. Glory be to You! Preserve us from the punishment of Fire.” [Qur’an, 3.190]

Some people confuse means and ends. Homeschooling is a means. The end is true learning and meaningful education. Not everyone can homeschool; and learning and education can take place through a myriad of means.

The sunna is to take the best and most effective of means in each situation.
