“Outfoxed examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, have been running a “race to the bottom” in television news. This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public’s right to know.”

A True Saint

Someone sent this… not sure of source…

The true saint goes in and out amongst the people and eats
and sleeps with them and buys and sells in the market and
marries and takes part in social intercourse, and never
forgets God for a single moment.

Continental Drift - America and Europe….

“Given the global reach of American influence, perhaps the fundamental question also needs to be re-phrased: Can America be contained? Less a call to the barricades than a recognition that in the world we’re in, the struggle to contain America is tranquil power’s greatest challenge. In this fight, we are all Europeans now.”

New Holocaust Book, New Theory: How Germans Fell for the ‘Feel-Good’ Fuehrer - International - SPIEGEL ONLINE

“Hitler not only fattened his adoring “Volk” with jobs and low taxes, he also fed his war machine through robbery and murder, says a German historian in a stunning new book. Far from considering Nazism oppressive, most Germans thought of it as warm-hearted, asserts Goetz Aly. The book is generating significant buzz in Germany and it may mark the beginning of a new level of Holocaust discourse.”

Ustadha Umm Sahl on Sayyidi Abd al-Ghani Nabulsi and the Oneness of Being

… And some priceless advice from one of the mountains of knowledge, wisdom, piety, and and spiritual excellence of our times:

“I would like to offer some advice to all the brothers, on both sides, involved in this debate. First, as Muslims, we should not forget the purpose of our existence, which is to acknowledge the oneness of Allah Most High and to worship Him according to the instruction of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in sincerity. We should always look to our hearts to ensure that our actions are motivated by sincerity (ikhlas) and god-fearingness (taqwa) and if not, then realize that our acts will be counted against us on the Day of Judgement.

“Second, discussion is healthy, but should be based on knowledge. If half of the time spent on internet debates was spent on learning and research, what was actually written might be of substance and benefit to the Muslims, rather than misleading. At the religious level, I wonder how often its most zealous contributors find the time to get up in the last third of the night and soften their hearts with prayer and earnest supplication (or perhaps their hearts have been hardened with too much arguing)?

“Lastly, we should remember the example of our beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and seek to apply what we can of his perfect character in our own lives. In a hadith related by Muslim (4.1706:2165), the Jews of Medina when greeting the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), dropped one of the letters of the words so instead of saying “al-Salamu alaykum” they said “al-Samu alaykum”, which changed the meaning of “Peace be upon you” to “Death be upon you”. `A’isha replied, “May death be upon you and curses”. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) disapproved of `A’isha’s reply and said, “Verily, Allah loves kindness in everything (inna Allah yuhibu al-rifqa fi al-amri kulihi)”.

“And our success is only from Allah Most High, we turn to Him for guidance, forgiveness and an increase in knowledge.”

Answering the Weir Questions

My dear friend, the Levantine Historian, asked me the following questions on his blog:

Seekers Digest – Sidi Faraz Rabbani
1.] How many times do you eat Mansaf in one week?
2.] What is the secret to a happy marriage?
3.] Would you ever consider coming to England for one week to teach if we paid you?
4.] How do find all the links you put up on your blog; do you have some super search software?
5.] You know many of the Sufis of Birmingham? Do any other Sufis compare to the Sufis of Birmingham?

The Answers:

(1) Eating Mansaf is a special ritual, which requires many exacting preconditions to be fulfilled–and it is considered bad adab in our way (the Mansaf Seekers Association) to engage in this gastronomic ritual more than once without the company of our Pir Sayyidi Sohail Nakhooda Saheb. Thus, we (the MSA) eat less of it than we would, normally, as Sayyidi Sohail is busy with his publishing responsibilities. (His responsibilities, however, lead him to partake in Mansaf rituals more than his co-seekers do.)

(2) The secret to a happy marriage is to follow the sunna of the Best of Creation, our Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his character and conduct; never to act on anger; to say the good or remain silent; to be easy-going and to overlook mistakes; to seek one’s rights with excellence; and to remember the Qur’anic paradigm of marriage: love, mercy, and living together in the best and most beautiful of ways.

(3) I don’t travel to teach. There are scholars in England–and I’m certainly not a scholar, by any real standards. It is not a question of money; it is a question of qualifications and suitability.

(4) I find the links on my blog through surfing. As one of my teachers says, I’m from the “Internet Generation,” and the Internet is as much home for me as Amman, Toronto, Madrid, Karachi, London, or Cairo are. I surf while working.

(5) I know a number of the noble sufis of Birmingham Sharif. I have never seen crazier people. May Allah bless them, and increase them in passion.

And Allah alone gives success.

Support Islamic media: subscribe to Q-News, Islamica Magazine, emel, and other quality publications.

So what if you don’t agree with everything they do? (If that is the criterion, then lock yourself in your own room. You’ll begin disagreeing with yourself, and…. it won’t be pretty.)

Rather, we should support them, assist them, write for them (no, Pir Saheb, article not forthcoming, sorry), subscribe to them, tell other about them, and give one’s nasiha to them in the spirit of building the good, rather than just armchair islamics.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac - Nine Ways to Tell if Your Watermelon Is Ripe

Longing for Summer. (I’m still clueless.) Ustadh Tirmidhi once explained that you beat the watermelon like a duff and then, “Listen to the notes.” Shaykh Diya’, an accomplished singer and duff player himself (and a disciple of Ustadh Tirmidhi), remained confused and asked, “Mawlana, what are we supposed to hear?”

None of us understood Ustadh Tirmidhi’s answer. I guess some things are learned by practical instruction and experience. Hearing is believing.

DeenPort MP3: Ana Dayfak Ya Rasul Allah - I’m Your Guest, O Messenger of Allah

www.DeenPort.com is now a year old. This song is an expression of longing for the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Being the guest of the Chosen One (Allah bless him and give him peace) is not just when one physically visits his noble grave. Rather, anyone who makes a commitment to follow the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in life is now his guest–and the noblest of creation will certainly not let them down.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I am the one who distributes, and it is Allah who gives.” [innama ana qasimun wa ‘Llahu yu`ti]
