Book Review: John Kenneth Galbraith: His Life, His Politics, His Economics - The New York Review of Books: A Mind of His Own

“….among economists he was perhaps most known for, and proudest of, his economic apostasy. He refused to accept what he considered the simplifying assumptions and the mathematical models that were fundamental to both the liberal and conservative economic orthodoxy of his day. Richard Parker’s comprehensive biography arrives at an appropriate time; many of the basic assumptions of orthodox economic theory that Galbraith challenged for much of his career are now being questioned within the orthodox tradition itself.”

Martin Lings (Ustadh Abu Bakr Siraj ad Deen) has died — Sunni Sister

Sidi Martin Lings has died, Allah having taken him to Himself, yesterday. Allah have mercy on him; accept his good deeds and service, and multiply it beyond measure; and overlook all else.

It is enough of an honor for this noble man that he has written the very best biography of the Best of Creation, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Thousands have learned about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through Sidi Martin Lings (Allah have mercy on him), an honor in this life whose reward we ask Allah to multiply beyond measure, and that He grant Sidi Martin Lings the highest of ranks…

Umm Zaid wrote about him on her excellent blog: Abu Bakr Siraj ad Deen Martin Lings

How Time Works - Howstuffworks

Time is something that most of us take for granted. Have you ever thought about why, for example, there are 12 months in a year? Why are there 30 days in September? Why are there time zones and what’s with daylight-saving time? Why are there 86,400 seconds in a day?

Copernic Desktop Search ranked #1 - The Office Weblog - office.weblogsinc.com _

Copernic Desktop Search was selected as the best overall desktop search tool this week in a benchmark study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s E-Business Consortium. The independent study tested vendors on usability, versatility, accuracy, efficiency, security, and enterprise readiness and was not funded or supported by individual desktop search companies or other organizations.

Completed in March 2005, UW’s study found Copernic’s software to be the most well-balanced desktop search tool among those evaluated, ranking it above 11 competitors including MSN Toolbar Suite, Google Desktop, Yahoo! Desktop Search, Wizetech Archivarius 3000, Ask Jeeves, Enfish Professional, ISYS Desktop, dtSearch Desktop, diskMETA Pro, Blinkx, and HotBot Desktop.”

I couldn’t agree more….
